  Mark Silva: A Rich Goodby

The church was packed. There was even a long line to enter St. Peter's. There were people sitting along the side pews. All the pews were filled.

We were there to attest to your legacy, to what you gave to this town and to all of us. You brought the energy for the Portuguese Festival and revived it. You brought the energy for the Regatta and revived this wonderful celebration. You gave of yourself, of your time and of your vision.

The town was there to bid you farewell and to thank you for everything that you have done for us. And you did it with humor, joy and a sense of much celebration. You knew how to throw a party and taught the town to do it too!

You were unique and you will be missed. But you would not leave without our thanks and without a party at the Red Inn. We were there with tears and we were there with much laughter and gratefulness for you.

Adieu, Mark! May the angels carry you on holy wings into eternal peace and celebration!

Paul Deruyter

Paul Deruyter as a representative on the visitor service board??

Ah, really? To decide to provide funds for 350 Bradford Street in their legal defense? Seriously? and then to provide special activities at coastal Acres--which he owns--to fund special summer films!!

Until 350 Bradford disaster is rectified, Paul De ruyter should not be appointed to the VSB.

Building Commissioner and Department

How is it that individual citizens could see that the buildings at 350 Bradford were in violation of Provincetown's  height restriction ordnance and yet neither the Building Commissioner nor the Building Inspector noticed the violation, not to  mention the amount of earth removed from the property? Where was the Conservation Commission when the dune was destroyed and a great concrete retaining wall was  placed in its stead, yet no one complained? Who is kidding  whom?

All  one has to  do is walk around town and take notice of  the many violations of houses being  renovated without authorization. Just look  at the number of fences that have gone up in violation of the height restriction, not to mention the many violations of the Chapter 91 Laws prohibiting obstruction of public beach access.

Building Commissioners ultimately work  under State rules and are subject to state governance. There  should be an inquiry into this department as was done in the past. It only takes a call.

350 Bradford and letters to the editor

I thought the comparison to the debacle in Truro was particularly apt.  The builder there was allowed to proceed but warned by a judge that they might ultimately have to tear down the building.

Of course, once the building was built there was very little chance it was going to be ordered teared down.  Provincetown has always been a 'sin first and ask forgiveness later' place when it comes to rules and regulations.  I could name 3 dozen examples as could all of you.

STOP the work at 350 until this is sorted out.  Do your jobs.

350 Bradford Street

All these people,Developers,Realtors,Builders that want to make "silk purses out of sows ears",have gone over the top for too long!! these quaint village houses where people for years raised large families with one bath in the house & then developers came and started all the greed and chaos! All with special agendas with out an ounce of concern for anything else! 350 is another example! They wanted to circumvent the system by their "concern" for affordable housing by laws which would have allowed the to build more without zoning/planning adherence! When that was shot down & they had to scale back & comply to rules, the charade began to what it is now! They will never be made to tear any of it down with out a major law suit to the Town & they know that!

Commuinty Center

The Town Manager's Statement & explanation of the Community center is written deliberately to confuse or otherwise branded as a moron! What the hell kind of cover up is that? he is reportedly friends with people at the helm of this project, that was & is a scam! Town Counsel for their misguided advice should be held accountable for suggesting the 99 year lease for the CC building / land giveaway!! What recourse does the town have to take it back before it starts?

350 Bradford Street

What About the Excessive Illegal Height of the Other buildings at 350 Bradford?

Who is measuring? who is doing a professional evaluation of these?

And what is the legal process to make certain that the six feet and more illegal height is reduced to what is legal? Does anyone know what the process is? does it go back to Planning? Does Zoning finally take up the issue as they should have more than a year ago? Does the building commissioner get tough and smart? Does the town manager demand that this happen? do the BOS ask questions and---demand answers!

D. Panagore

Panagore is a leader.  He led the charge to give hatch the community center.  He led us into Court with Harbor hill so we can spend tens of thousands on legal bills.  He led many people out of Town hall when they quit.  He is a leader.

A Question to Ponder

When Panagore goes, and he will, and Harbor Hill fails, and it will, what will the Donegan-Yingling-Richter legacy be?

Two More Pointed Letters to the Editor on 350 Bradford

What will it take? a rebellion for town manager and town building commissioner and town planning board members to act on this disaster!! this is beyond the acceptable and if not action is taken and if no buildings are reduced to the legal level--as six feet for this one building--then let's take action and make major changes at town hall. No one excepted. enough is enough.

If Panagore wants to play patty cakes with Chris Wise--the ultimate front man--, Burce MacGregor, Paul De Ruyter and Ben ReDuyter, then let hem pay the price of this corruption. Panagore can make this right. Let's hope he does.

Oh, going Back to 2003? We are in 2017!!

seems like this discussion of Motherwell's changes to her house are coming from the developer's friend! There is absolutely no comparison to the utter destruction of the land, the environment, the dunes and the streetscape at 350 Bradford. It is an environmental disaster, a gift to the developers from some inside town hall. and they are still protecting the developers with talk of "mediation" on the six feet, two inches built illegally one one building and perhaps on all the others.
'
Tear the over-built part down. Have the developers--all four of them--follow the zoning by-laws. Period.

Wake up folks, this isn't tough. The selectmen are required to give the TM a  yearly performance review. Maybe, if they pay attention this year, they can find reason to give him a bad review and then use that as the reason for cutting him loose. Jarran was a jerk, made a scene in a public place, overstepped his authority, intimidated people and still was a protected class as he was a cop. The TM is very different.

350 Bradford Street - Banner Editorial

Lise Motherwell is NO position to critize anyone of something she herself is guilty of, and which was covered by the Banner in 2003 and  a book about Provincetown buildings

Here's the direct quote from the film he published "Buildng Provincetown, The Book", by David W. Dunlap:

Florsheims estate sold the property in April 1990. It was purchased from interim owners five months later by Steinberg and Motherwell, who is one of Robert Motherwells daughters. Through VonThaden Builders/Designers, they applied in 2002 for permission to undertake what was variously described as a rehabilitation or a reconstruction of No. 651. Their architect was Paul Krueger of Cambridge. Just how fully they had divulged the extent of their plans in advance was the cause of considerable controversy and debate in January 2003 when  during construction  The Banner raised the question with local officials of whether the house looked more demolished than it should have. (Mary Ann Bragg, Work on House Seems to Go Far Beyond Renovation, The Banner, 9 January 2003.) John Dowd, the chairman of the historical commission, told Bragg he no longer recognized the house and said, That was not what was described to us.

350 Bradford Street

Lisa Motherwell's Letter to the Editor is a Must Read

She clearly understands that exceeding the legal height of 6 feet, 2 inches on the 350 Bradford development needs the right correction: take it down 6 feet, 2 inches. Period. there is no negotiation for illegal action. There is no  mediation. It is illegal and was done so knowingly.

Lower the height whatever it takes. If it means losing one floor, then so be it.

And Lisa Motherwell advices us that the other buildings being constructed as fast as they can--also are too high. Stop them now. Make certain these other buildings are lowered to the legal height.

How did this mega complex not even go to Zoning? How could all the excavation and the major alteration to the land and to the dunes, not involve a Zoning decision?

How, indeed!

Someone at town hall needs to provide answers--and truthful ones.

Enough fabrications. Enough game playing. Enough lies.

Cut the top off, lower the height. It is simple. Follow the law. You didn't and so at the right price. We Should Have voted for worker Housing

For all the constant talk about housing, the recreation center should have been a place for 75 workers. this is what we need and this is what should have been done. But the deal was corruptive and inside people got more than an advantage. and now what do we have? A step child that we the voters will be financially supporting while two or three key people collect the monies under the guise of an art center.

We need worker housing and this was a great choice to do exactly this.  How sad.

Can thank the chair of Community Preservation!

Re: Still Blaming Bernie and Everyone But Her for Her Loss

And I guess that makes you the typical Sanders supporter: still insisting Hillary is the root of all of America's problems and believing Saint Bernie is the solution. Man, those Russian hackers sure did hit a home run with you guys.

Tenting

Unbelievable:

So once again the camping is still going on.  Not only is there a very large set up, but they cross the highway with Stop & Shop carriages and hold traffic up.

Why is this still going on?  What is Panagore waiting for to move them along?

This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed...  How can others be moved along from sleeping when this is being allowed?

SERIOUSLY.........

Hate Crime

The Town Manager's treatment of past and current employees is by all standards a HATE Crime, when will it stop?

Re:  PBG

"The new ED needs to come out from behind her broom".
Can you tell us what this means and why you have such animosity towards her?  Sunday night's concert at Town Hall was a successful, sold out event and I would assume raised some much needed income for the organization.  Is it possible you are one of the disgruntled candidates who did not get the position? This might explain your vehemence, which, for some reason, you think is helpful. You seem have all the answers.  Do you volunteer your time there? Are you doing anything to help them get through their "sad state of affairs"?  Can you offer anything other than a bitchy attitude and condescending words?  If so, step up to the plate and offer your assistance. I am sure you would be welcomed with open arms.

350 Bradford

350 Bradford Cannot Legally Be done on One Building at a time

If this were accurate, then each building would need its onw permit and each building would need its own Planning Board decision. and if this happened, the setbacks and minimum acreage would not allow the second structure to be built. it would require so many square feet--5,000 or more--for each structure.

It is ONE site and ONE permit and all the designs need to have been presented to be legally granted a decision. It is NOT a building by building decision. this is inaccurate, if not pure bull. It is corrupt in its interpretation and a public statement made to allow these flawed buildings to be built.

If it smell rancid when you drive by, know there is a reason. and the putrid smell starts in Town Hall.

Tenting

The homeless tent area on route 6 is expanding. They now have outdoor seating... Did they apply for a permit? Oh, never mind.. Only business owners need to do that. Come on superiors... it's time to dismantle. It's clearly viewed from the road....

PBG

The PBG is not in sad shape because of the ED. The root cause of the problems and declining membership  of the PBG is the incompetence  and bullying of the board. Many former members feel the PBG  has become an exclusive marketing and advertising  arm for one particular venue in town! The new ED is talented and  experienced. With the board and the venue owner calling the shots, she won't succeed!  Such a shame

PBG

Its no story... it's a fact, all one needs to do is ask the folks involved, Outer Cape Health, Several of the inns in town, and the events sponsors. The new ED needs to come out from behind her broom, and be a part of the community... the PBG is in a sad state of affairs.... the past folks must be in such dismay to see what once was great be reduced to what it is today.

Community Center

why Indeed! the DPW should have nothing to do with the old recreation building'

and we should never have given $100,000 to have it painted out of town CPC funds. They are simply taking from the town for their own financial benefit under the guise of artistic creativity.

We have been had once again.

CVS

I think we just got a CVS in town! Someone posted that Donut Experiment is a chain.... It is one of the fastest growing cheap franchise chains  in the united States. This is going to lend aforcefull argument to CVS's attorney. Opps we did it again!
12:52 pm edt

Homeless

I think they should be allowed on the front lawn at Town Hall.  Apparently, they can go wherever they want.

Come on Panagore, put your public safety hat on and move them out from Route 6.

You don't  want them destroying your property well, we don't want them destroying ours.....

Step Up.....You have made it clear you are the commissioner of public safety...

Town Hall

The lights on Town Hall.  Too much of a good thing.  It's supposed to be a historical building not a billboard.  Tacky tacky tacky.  We just got rid of the blue chair, the lights scream tourist.

The Sal's Saga

"This is what the Democratic party has become.  Out of touch with the soul of America.  Corporatism and clientism reign supreme.  And it's playing out as if by script in our tiny little town at Sal's."

This is a truly ridiculous analogy. The neighbor's mean, bullying behavior has nothing to do with the Democratic party. Thanks for voting Bernie. Hope you're enjoying the Trump presidency you enabled.

Just Askin: The new Donut sHop Place (where Franchised Subway was formerly) is another franchise store that just opened this week! How was that allowed if CVS can't ?

Sal's:
End it already. Sal's has been there for the past 25 years, 15 years, and will remain now.... Neighbors have already tried to fight a battle they lost so proceed forward people. Food was delicious back in the old days and is equally as good now... I agree with the previous.... I didn't vote for Clinton last time and I would never......

Re: PBG

There are always at least 2 sides to every story.  While your concerns are greatly appreciated, your story has a lot of holes in it.  Just because someone has given you their side of a story which has now become your side of the story, it doesn't make it true.

The Sal's Saga

It's just sad.  If you wonder why Clinton didn't win, check out her party/event planner working with his neighbors to drive Sal's out of business.

This is what the Democratic party has become.  Out of touch with the soul of America.  Corporatism and clientism reign supreme.  And it's playing out as if by script in our tiny little town at Sal's.

Crude & Rude

Those people that continue to fight the Sal's Place Owners are monsters so smitten with hate they are under the misguided notion that their influence & money will buy them out! WELL IT WON'T! No amount of money will buy them health & property security in spite if security cameras,or will it buy Class for they are classless ,entitled people that are not welcome here!! They will lose their battle to the "underdogs" that have the Town's support! Throw in the towel while you still can or get out! You won't be missed!!
1:12 pm edt

Camp Site

So, it appears the new homeless shelter is the woods near the old burn dump road off Route 6.  Why is this being allowed?  Clotheslines, open fires and so forth....

I guess it's ok to give up paying your mortgage and set up camp?

Whose responsibility is this ?

Sounds to me like someone just calling it like they see it. Sound to me like someone using the general term 'artist'. get a life, you admit you go back and re-read this crap to correct someone on a term that would apply to 'performance'. you missed the point entirely, typical

350 Bfradford Street - Start Over,Do it Right!

Having attended a few Planning/ Zoning Borad Meetings myself keeping in mind our Building Comm./Bldg. Insp. are not Engineers! Combine Engineers & Architects with the Town Planner who flim flame the Town Bds. With sophisticated words & not knowledge of our laws & terrain creates the mess at  350 Bradford St. & speaks volumes of the project! All done by intended design initially! Now the old "Blame Game" Starts to let it slide by! Some local carpenter would have to start over! Sooooo, start over,Do it right!

Re: PBG

Who is the Carnival grand marshal / talent? It looks like PBG has seen better days given what people are saying around town and in the business community. It's been said that LEANN RIMES (2 time Grammy winner) was slated to perform at Town Hall as a fundraiser for a local non profit. It's been said that the Provincetown Business Guilds new Executive Director had a field day destroying this amazing event that would have (1) raised a lot of money for the Non profit, (2) Great publicity for Provincetown. Members should be asking the PBG, its staff and Board of Directors be accountable and read the governing documents for the organization...
