Re: Soup Kitchen

I agree on Skip, it's not really a soup kitchen.  Many people treat it as a restaurant.  When I saw them fundraising over the summer at the firehouse the line they were using to get donations was somewhat dubious.

More people go to SKIP for a good cheap lunch than go there because they can't afford a meal.  It's a nice community get together, but call it what it is.

BIG GROAN....Here we go again.

THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!

All you do is complain and moan. Can we please move on?

Why don't you run for president.....I'll vote for you, just so you stop your constant moaning. Or better yet....start a coup.

Re: Soup Kitchen

I volunteered at the soup kitchen in Provincetown a couple of years ago. What I saw was a social gathering more than a place to feed the needy. I am not saying that is a bad thing but it was by no means anything like the places in Boston in which I did the same type of volunteering. Enjoy the soup kitchen but don't send people to restaurants if they want to be part of a very nice gathering.

You honestly couldn't be more wrong.

It was also many voting not necessarily for Trump but very against Clinton..

"Odd, How Many Republicans Are Here in Provincetown"

Actually not so many. Here are the election results:

Clinton 2082
Johnson 38
Stein 35
Trump 208  8.7%
Write-ins 18
Blanks 18
Total 2399 out of 2949 registered

May be as many coyotes in town as voted GOP; a real minority to add to our touted live and let live diversity.

Election Circus

Just because she wasn't elected this is an affront to women? She destroyed herself.

She should have kept celebrities out of the mix. That's what sunk her.

Actors & singers should have kept their opinions to themselves. They basically ruined her chance.

Streisand, Cher and others, threatened to leave the country. Who cared? They thought more of themselves, and their exposure, than the candidate they supported.

Cher even called her an f-up. Good going Cher. Choosing dummies to speak for you....isn't exactly a presidential move.

Old lady Madonna even wanted to exchange sex for votes. YUCK.

They turned the election into a sideshow.

Re: Maybe it's Me - SKIP

I don't Care How Much You Gave

the soup kitchen is not a restaurant. It is not an eatery for all. this is an abuse of its missions. I am offended that you think it is there for you and you can toss in a few bucks or even more.

Go to Fanizzi's or go the Crown & Anchor. They are restaurants and that is what you need. Not a place where many work hard to help the needy.

You have conflated a soup kitchen with a restaurant. Wrong. Awful thinking and you need to find another kitchen--not this one--for your hungry habits.

Well, well...I pop in to see what's been going on and find people are even more ignorant, exclusionary and self entitled than when I had to endure you.  In one month's worth of forum, you've managed to denigrate women, Cubans, and anyone in town with brains and real concerns about a future with Der Fuhrer and his psycho minions.  You piss away valuable time wailing and moaning about "the blue chair" and the "wasted money" of town forums, yet fail to understand that maybe it wasn't a good idea for him to publicly contemplate assassination of the head of North Korea, who happens to be another nut job of equally trigger-happy proportions!  You can swim in denial all you want now, but once inauguration day comes, the "new American order" will be coming for you...and you're gonna need all the allies you can get.  Too bad you've alienated so many. Now, we're going to worry about covering our OWN asses and leaving yours out to dry.

Unless you AND your pals are throwing $20 or more into the jar, you are NOT "feeding several people several times over".  It costs SKIP $2.50 to feed each person, so if you deign to donate $20, you're feeding 8 people ONCE or 4 people twice, not several times.  Second, I have spoken to more than a few people who HAVE to eat there because it's all they can afford, only to find out that at the next table there's a gang who can well afford to pay but come in to take a FREE meal, so stop coming off as generous "patrons".

Where is Pelosi and where is Schumer and where or where is Hillary Clinton? this is not time for retreat and silence. time to be speaking out against this atrocity. But I only hear silence. this is not acceptable.

Re: I Find the Recount Exciting and Interesting

I find it to be a distraction and a useless waste of peoples money. It's nothing but a fraudulent money grabbing scheme for Stein to get money from the distraught democrat voters and if the money isn't spent on the costs of the recount, where does the money go? TO STEINS ELECTION COFFERS!! WAKE UP!! The dems are giving their money to the green party!! Even if the recount is found to be in Clintons favor in Michigan and Wisconsin, it does nothing because without a recount in Clintons favor in Pennsylvania, it's moot. And the recount in PA will not happen due to the fact that the recount request and fee needed to be requested and fulfilled within two weeks of the election and we're past that date so it's all for nothing. Really? How would you like to escape your country from a murderer, a ego maniac and a really really bad man? I know many people who had to flee or suffer the consequences. You couldn't criticize him or his regime. If someone overheard you talking against him even in passing, you were either jailed, tortured, or even killed.

You couldn't celebrate holidays, or even travel outside the country. Look at photos, he didn't even allow progress. They're still driving 50 and 60 year old vehicles.

Even his own daughter escaped to Florida to be free of him. That has to tell you something.

Second, from their own site "SKIP's goal is to provide nutritious and healthy meals in a welcoming and warm atmosphere for all individuals on the Outer Cape who are either in need or seek community." Great That the Recount is on!

Consider that DT only won Michigan by 10,000 votes and Wisconsin by 22,000 votes and Pennsylvania by 70,000 votes. and what is strangely questionable is that the exit poles did not match the outcome. And the Trump-rigged group that eliminated a million voters across many states did cause these Americans to lose their legitimate votes.

What Exactly are Our Legal Bills?

Seems town hall always finds a way to hide the true and accurate expenses of legal bills. So how much are we really paying for town counsel when this town manager seems to feel that his sidekick is town counsel. Town forum the weekend before Thanksgiving is stupid. No live broadcast is stupid. So is there a scheduled showing of these two meetings?
11:19 am est

Re: Town Forums

Not having live broadcasts of the town forums was a mistake.

When will the elected and appointed officials get the picture? There are still many people who do not go to these meetings for various reasons, legitimate reasons. Having PTV show the program live increases the opportunity for residents and voters to be able to watch. It does not encourage someone who is away, had different plans or is elderly or sick. Those are the people we want covered and that will not decrease the audience. These are citizens who could not be there in person.

AND, IMO, the format was poor. Breaking off into groups decreases the opportunity to discuss the full program of challenges facing the voters.

I consider this whole effort a disaster. Money spent, staff time wasted, and a poor showing. Don't try to sugar coat it, it failed!

NOW WHAT??

When I came here over 40 years ago, everyone said hi to everyone regardless. The unfriendliness and outright hostility that has become this town is horrible. Have we become like everyone else? Yesterday, at Stop & Shop a woman with a mohawk started yelling at me in the self service line....I guess I wasn't going fast enough. I said I was sorry....but she just kept it up. She wanted a fight....and was getting madder because I wasn't giving it to her.  I was a bit jarred. Why is everyone SO angry? I was going to wait to talk to her....but I just went on my way.

There is so much to be thankful for....are we THAT unhappy? What's next in store, physical violence? Downright scary.

Why?

Why is the owner of one of the worst restaurants on the cape that sells horrible Italian one night a week (if you make flavorless Italian you need to leave the kitchen. Literally tasteless meatballs) sarcastically putting down a restaurant that is busy every night of the week and makes exceptionally Italian?

Lay Off

Why has this board become a venue of attack. Having an opposing viewpoint is what made this country great. So, your candidate didn't win. Mine didn't win in 2008, and in 2012. Did I attack the winner and his supporters? Did I take to the streets and protest? No, I knew it was part of the democratic model that made this country what it is. So what, your candidate didn't win this time. Be patient. Things never stay the same. Look to the future. All the attacks and protestations will not change the outcome. It is what it is. In all of my years on this planet, an election was never reversed. Some of the people on this board are a piece of work. We all have to think the same in order to live in harmony. What next? Do we all have to look the same to live in harmony too? Think about your behavior and realize that people have diverse thoughts and beliefs. We are ALL different and unique. Isn't that what diversity is.....being different? That's why I came to Provincetown to live free, be who I am, and have my own opinions...whether popular or unpopular. Don't we ALL deserve that? How dare you tell me how to live and that I have no rights!!

Gays & Trump

Gays & Trump Yeah, I voted for him. You wanna know why?.....Madame Secretary was going to invite 500 million gay haters to the US. I didn't want to be thrown off a roof for my life style. That's why! We wouldn't have stood a chance. I'm not going to die to be politically correct. It would be madness. She was mad. And what about their customs for women? sexual mutilation? Senseless murder of women for disagreeing with a man? Not on my watch! Is that what you wanted girls? To be put so far down that you wouldn't have any rights? C'mon, get your priorities straight. Sharia Law was a matter of time. It would have put everyone back in the middle ages. We can't let that happen. Sharia Law is archaic. I didn't want to fight for my rights as a queer once again. I already did that. Trump was the better choice. She didn't have my back. He does.

A Kinder Gentler Nation....A total Failure

Maybe we need a new approach. I felt fear and worry under the present administration. There wasn't a real force to be reckoned with. The world including us, are getting our butts kicked by terrorists whom we thought were precious allies. Time to put America first. Let the other countries fend for themselves. Maybe now, we can sleep easier with a REAL force in power. It's about time, our power and our might are respected again. We are at odds with one another....that's B.S.!! Wasn't inner turmoil part of Saul Alinsky's plan? Give peace a chance hasn't worked, sorry aging hippies. Fairy tales and unicorns are just that. Step up to reality.

maybe 40 people attended them. that is not many people and maybe the approach and goal was wrong. Maybe they wanted to influence votes instead of getting real input. They seem to want to control how people think instead of listening to what the town wants and then create articles for town meeting.

Re: Affordable Housing

AFFORDABLE HOUSING--ISN'T FREE HOUSING

Once again, there is a letter in the Banner from a citizen who didn't understand that a reverse mortgage means that the bank owns your home once one signs up for it.

Then, when they see the light of their folly, the turn to the town and complain that affordable housing is "too expensive" for them--but it is called AFFORDABLE HOUSING" Not free housing.

I know so many people who worked under the table their adult lives and now they see that their social security is a pittance. Or they didn't plan for their future while they worked regular jobs. IT ISN'T THE TOWN'S RESPONSIBILITY to take care of people who made bad decisions.

REPEAT AFTER ME. Bad planning on your part doesn't create an emergency on my part.

Living in the off season with this population is no longer something that I'm interested in doing. Living in the winter with a population of construction workers and able bodied earners who jam the soup kitchen has resulted in me no longer giving them any money.

I'm sorry that people have made poor choices and took paths that were disabling in the future (and I worked with these people) but it isn't the taxpayers responsibility to pay for you to live here. That is just the way it is.

Hillary vs. Merkel

Hillary stated her hero is Angela Merkel. Another strong woman whom I "had" respect for. Ms. Merkel has made rather a mess of her -- come one, come all, red carpet migrant fiasco. My wonderful Calais is now an attack zone. One has to drive fast there, or get your windshield smashed by unruly migrants. I also found it disconcerting that women couldn't go out after dark, lest they get raped and attacked by migrant gangs....and heaven forbid if you report it. Same with Berlin and Stockholm. Having lived in both France and Germany, it saddens me that if I went back, my home would be my prison after dark.

Why was Hillary so anxious to bring that misery here? With her following Saul Alinsky's  RULES FOR RADICALS diatribe to a T, I guess she felt it was her duty to destroy the country, in honor of him. I really hope we've heard the last of husband, wife and daughter. Anyone but them!

Gays For Trump

I'm gay man, and I voted for Trump. I'm educated, employed, and was "with her" until after the Pulse terror attack. Gays meant nothing to her. All she spoke about was gun control. Guns don't kill people....people kill people. The media did everything to hide the identity of the killer. She even had the killer's father in her audience....how gross. It made me ponder the future.

Look what she espoused....."GIRL POWER"   pretty much all is she cared about. Thank goodness she didn't make history (her biggest wish). People were dying...what did she care?  Trump was on the Orlando site in a heartbeat....took her hmmm, a few days. That should tell us all something. I voted for life....my own, and the lives of my gay brothers and sisters. Forgive and forget?....my Aunt Harriet.

The Dangerous Candidate Lost

I mean really, open ALL borders? That's smart.  If that isn't both foolish and dangerous. The American people were not going to put themselves in jeopardy. Your girl was not putting safety into play. She played to one party and gender. Being a woman, she excluded men. My husband said during the debate. "she just doesn't include men when she speaks". He's right. Americans didn't and don't matter to her. She just didn't care....we all saw that....my parents taught me to see a wolf in sheep's clothing. The terrorism that has been occurring was a barometer. The American people have said ENOUGH.

Utopia doesn't exist except in fairy tales. It is never going to happen. Be nice....be polite...but be wary. I live by the golden rule. But some don't. Open your eyes.

Fool me once....shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.

Dumbed-down Distracted Americans

Dumb down American thinking, distract Americans with Perpetual Postings and Texting

and then you have a nation that is damaged in its ability to critically think about issues and to grasp the complexity of problems. then you look for simple solutions to complicated issues and find slogans the answer. then you believe in illusions, in false promises because you cannot use critical analysis that you let die years back or for some never cultivated. thinking requires     hard work and the easy answers are false ones. but that is what this nation now sadly faces. Fewer and fewer people who spend time analyzing problems and having intellectual discussions on the fate and future of America.

When your fate lies in the voting hands of the most inarticulate and the most intellectually lazy and those who don't read anymore you get the tragic results that we now all face.

I'd be willing to bet Chelsea Clinton would run in 2020 or 2024. She is being groomed for Congress. Ivanka Trump has a lot on the ball too. Both are strong women. So having a woman president isn't totally out of reach. I like Ivanka, she shows a lot of good sense. Ok, it's business sense, but you have to start somewhere. Chelsea is showing a stable life as well. She definitely isn't flighty. Both would make good leaders. It would be up to the people to make the decision.

The future looks good. You have to be optimistic. Things don't stay the same forever.

What does that mean for two Provincetown summer residents that had a lot riding on her win?  Hillary's event planner (had been bragging about the splendid inaugural balls he was planning) and his partner that hoped to get a big political appointment had a lot riding on her victory.  How will this impact their ability to battle with Siobhan Carew of Sal's Place? Yes,they will have more free time to harass her, but will they have the financial means to continue this battle?  One does have to wonder if karma paid those two antagonists a visit.  There may be one bright side to Clinton's defeat... the too fabulous for words neighbors may need to back off now that they have no connection to power.

This sentence illustrates to us that you are too biased against women to even hear what we have to say. Men have had more privilege throughout history, and any woman with a brain knows that. We do not have all the jobs; we take the jobs MEN won't deign to do, and in reality, the so-called recovery has benefited many more MEN than women. We are only paid 77 cents for every dollar you earn for the same job. Women every day go to work at jobs where they are subjected to sexual harassment, and one out of every 4 women will suffer sexual assault at the hands of men. When we report, we are either dismissed or subjected to so much abuse from the legal system that it's like being assaulted and humiliated TWICE. We've had to fight to keep our rights to our own bodies,FFS! Finally, every day, everywhere, women have to stand up to cretins like you who seek to diminish our intellect, insult our opinions, sneer at our accomplishments (jealous much) and insulate ourselves f! rom nasty, vicious personal attacks just because we have our own talents and opinions and we won't bow down to you. And  now the Russians are reporting that they were in contact with Trump during the campaign. and who is the first person this failed person received a call from? Yes, Putin.

and you see no problem with this terrible approach to foreign policy? and his wish to put 45% tariff increase on Chinese products?

We are not some small atoll in the Pacific. but we have someone who has less experience running a country then a chief in the Trobriand Islands.

Re: "No, He is Not My President"

People who said that in 2008 and again in 2012 were rightly called traitors to our democracy.

Secretary Clinton, to her credit, said yesterday that Donald Trump is "now our President". President Obama said the same.

Clinton failed to make her case to enough voters, in a situation where both candidates were seriously flawed; and where a majority wanted a break from established politicians like her. That also explains why she had so much trouble defeating an unaccomplished self-proclaimed socialist.

McCain and Romney got millions more votes than Trump, but lost because Obama got even more.  Many registered Dems stayed home this week. If you want to hand out blame, include those who chose not to vote, especially in the cities of the Rust Belt and South. Clinton just didn't excite enough of them.

Re: Downtrodden Women

I suppose the people have spoken. We're just not ready for the supremacy of women yet. The BIG lie of male privilege is not. No such thing. The world isn't ready for an amazon society. I was watching The View yesterday (all women show) and they were lamenting that women would have to wait for "their time." What in the hell?? Seems like they've made it to me.

Whoopi Goldberg was complaining about the "whitelash" that happened with the election. Let's evaluate....she makes $2.4 million per year hosting that show....she takes so called "white" money where is the whitelash? If you are so against so called whitelash....don't take the money. HYPOCRISY.

Women already have more equal rights than men (they are gender privileged)...they are just too stupid to realize it......you have all the jobs....you make more money than men. Look at the high school here in town......ALL WOMEN.  You're all too dumb to know.....you've made it. Not like you're still in the kitchen. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT??? Explain.

Let's face it....you're just missing one thing and you can't stand it. Anatomy.

Re:An Observation

No, He is Not My President

and if Hitler were elected, would you expect me to say that he is my president, my leader? No, this pretense of a president is a fascist, a demagogue and a racist. He is a psychologically damaged man who needs to be institutionalized and should be in a Washington hospital instead of the White House. He is sadly but a mirror reflecting the sickness of America, the hatred of those who have lost their ability to reflect and understand their lives and America. He is a travesty that will take this nation down.

How do great nations fall? You have your answer America, and he is headed into the White House.

Enough About Women

The Election was a definite indicator of people having had enough of "women BS.

I myself have clearly had enough of this gender selfishness. If you want to kill babies....kill them.  However, it's hypocritical. You're not in favor of the death penalty....but pro abortion. A bit creepy if you ask me.

Here's a solution.....stop having unprotected sex. Problem solved.

Re: Letter to a Young Woman - Aftermath of the Election & Things to Come

Well, I never thought I would see the day, but Marcene's commentary here is right on for all women.  We've seen and fought it all: sex discrimination in hiring and benefits, sexual harassment, age discrimination and more, and being mightily penalized for having an intellect and refusing to tow all the old sexist lines.  We're punished for our initiative, our assertiveness in business, and for not being "polite" and placating.

It's because of we who came before you that you've had any benefits in society today, yet you call us relics, have contempt for our battles and have drunk the white-male-privilege Kool-Aid.  Trust me, in 30-40 years, you'll find out how unequal we truly are; you'll find that we haven't "come a long way, baby"; you'll have to sacrifice pieces of yourself to survive and possibly prosper.  Now, with the world unleashed by the Sexual Predator-in-Chief, you will be forced to watch the rights you have -- the rights that we have fought for and suffered for -- being dissolved before your eyes.

Re:  The Banner Editorial - Fair Reporting

I wasn't offended by the recent Editorial in the Banner recently that didn't support just one candidate! It was unbiased as I read it instead of stumping for just one person! It mentioned options which was fair! That's been the problem with biased media reporting through this whole Pesidential Campign! Two things Journalists learn in fair reporting: 1) Do not report on your own personal biases & do not malign publicly other people's preferences to your own! 2) Do not demean Religious Freedom of beliefs foreign to your own!  To do that commits Journalistic suicide!

Re: Letter to a Young Woman - Aftermath of the Election

Now doesn't Your Editorial Reveal Your Ignorance

I think it does. Your flippancy on third party votes has shown how a country can lose its soul and gain a demagogue and fascist as president. Nothing is flip in a presidential election but you, editor in chief, acted as if voting was and is something to throw to the wind. And a nation's fate is thrown away as well. How foolish and immature and ignorant you turned to be. Tonight's election reveals how problematic your and many other's selection of third party votes helped a nation be doomed.

So True, so True

We need to look back and better understand our onw past. We cannot take all that was done by so many women as if it did not happen. We stand, as some often said, on the shoulders of giants and we have the view we do because of them.

I appreciate being encouraged to look back and remember.

Marcene Marcoux, right on for your Letter, and revealing your experiences as a woman in the academic field, shared by legends of women.

As to the younger women who believe equality has been achieved, why are females leaving the most lucrative of careers, technology and social media, in droves? Further, the perception that prostitution and porn are "careers of choice" is willfully ignorant.

Change is coming to America, on the heels of a Black president, along with millions of other women and men, celebrate and have faith in our future with a woman in the White House.

CPA Funds

Over 10 years ago this new "tax" went into effect basically raising about $500,000 a year. It was voted in because of the housing crisis and was intended to be used to the maximum allowed by the program 80%, for housing. If that had happened conservatively $5,000,000 would have gone for housing. As you know it has funded repairs at various public and private building and salaries. Let's not squander the opportunity for the Housing Trust like we did the CPA funds. Let's at least direct as much as possible of CPA funds to the Trust to fund the Trust, spending CPA money as originally intended

Re: Breakwater Reconstruction

This Banner Editor should be Ashamed of Herself

Yes, herself! Some of the people many years ago that helped a woman become an editor of a paper like the Banner was Hillary Clinton and Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan and women like Madeleine Albright. Hillary was a great Secretary of State and Senator and she has fought for women for years. How some choose to forget the struggle that existed for women to be taken seriously is unforgiveable.

And now you do not, as a newspaper, support Hillary Clinton for President but encourage readers to vote for a third party choice. Should we all be grateful that you did not support Donald Trump--well that is what you are, in actuality, doing.

Maybe it's time to better understand your role as editor--editor of the Banner that has more then one reader--you. It involves a community and you failed to respond to that community which you serve. Shame on you.

COMPLETELY different eco systems. East Harbor was a brackish water eco system that was eutrofying, no doubt, but the surrounding fresh water ecosystems that have evolved will be destroyed as a result of the salt water infusion that will probably happen. That, in my opinion, is habitat destruction.
Breaking open the breakwater will do nothing to improve the closed off sections of the Moors marsh. Salt water already flushes readily through the breakwater rocks and the marsh is in good shape. Opening it doesn't make it better, it just allows salt water to rush in faster, which, overtime will erode and destroy acres of marsh grass as the new incoming and outgoing tidal river migrates where it wants. Let it happen, see if I really care but in a few years, make sure you post your apology in here.

Not true. We live in liberal Mass. Hillary would still get a majority here if she axed-murdered Bill. Since our system is based on electoral college by state and not total popular vote, a protest vote here to a third party candidate is a viable choice to send a message; it would not help Trump at all.

Now if we lived in Florida or Ohio, that would be a different story.

Provincetown Housing Trust

Now that our governor has passed our housing trust it seems wise for associations to add restrictions to their docs to restrict sale to public entities. I would not want the town to be a landlord of a unit in my association. Just think of the red tape to change condo fees of make emergency repairs if town meeting had to be involved. That said, I was told affordables do not have to pay condo fees. Is that true?

No One Has Said that Panagore Inititated the Breakwater Debacle

He has just spent town monies for the design. He has lacked perspective on this and he should be cancelling such an engineering disaster to our ecosystem. Even if the national Seashore approves this--it does not make this failed decision a good one.

It is, as someone posted, Panagore's Folly--not his first and not his last, but his still.

Just talk to anyone who knows these waters and Long Point and talk to those who love clamming, they are forcefully against this idea. It is based on poor research and many future could-be's--not what we have and what could go wrong if done.
